Each model features a simple, open “studio” layout with just one interior wall for the bathroom, creating a spacious, light-filled feel that lives far larger than its size. Our most cost-effective models yet, the Backyard Cottages still deliver the same iconic round form, energy efficiency, and craftsmanship that define every Deltec.

Why are Deltec Backyard Cottages less expensive?
The structural shell of the Backyard Cottages are less expensive per square ft than comparable standard 360° Signature Collection models. While the Sanctuary and the Nest are both 517 sq ft, the base shell price of the Sanctuary is $9,967 less than the Signature Nest – over 20% in additional savings.
Backyard Cottage Design
- Designed to be an auxiliary structure near a “main house.”
- Simple “studio” floor plans are designed with only one interior wall for bathroom.
- Highly energy efficient, but not "net zero ready".
- Base shell is “Hurricane-resistant” to 130 mph, but Signature and Design Studio High-wind (Level 1, 2 & 3) upgrade packages are not available. Backyard Cottages are not available in the Caribbean or other locations requiring high-wind upgrades.
- Cannot be built on a basement foundation (only slab, crawl space or piers/pilings).
Why Upgrade to Nest versus Sanctuary?
- Nest is a complete auxiliary dwelling – floor plans include full kitchen and utility closet for washer/dryer
- Complete construction plan set including mechanical and electrical details
- High-wind packages available, net zero ready
- Full-service support 360° Signature support from Deltec project management team
Backyard Cottage Construction Process
- Construction drawings do not include mechanical, and electrical details (HVAC assumed to be wall-mounted mini-splits with outside mechanical equipment).
- The Backyard Cottage package includes limited support from the Deltec project management team.
- The Backyard Cottage buyer assumes the lead role in project management process, including:
- Confirming building permit requirements in local jurisdiction, including lot size, building height and setbacks.
- Assembling all elements required for building permit and securing permit.
- The Backyard Cottage buyer is prepared to engage a builder, serve as own general contractor or as DIY builder to ensure:
- An appropriate foundation is built on the site.
- The Deltec Structural shell components (including wall panels and roof/floor trusses) can be unloaded and assembled on the foundation.
- HVAC, plumbing and electric is properly installed and utilities connected.
- The interior of cottage shell is finished to completion (wall framing, insulation, sheetrock, flooring, fixtures and finishes).
