High-Wind Upgrades for Deltec Homes

Designed for Strength. Engineered for Your Location.

Deltec homes have a remarkable history of withstanding powerful storms. Our distinctive round design, radial roof and floor truss systems, high-strength materials, and strong structural connections work together to create homes with exceptional resistance to high winds.

For locations with more demanding wind requirements, Deltec offers structural upgrades and engineering options tailored to local building codes, site conditions, and permitting requirements. Our homes can be engineered for design wind speeds up to 190 mph, depending on the design and building location.

The right high-wind solution isn’t necessarily the highest upgrade level. It’s the one that meets the requirements of your specific project.

Choosing the Right High-Wind Package

High-Wind Packages are designed to address the specific wind and permitting requirements of your building location. Our team will help you identify the appropriate level based on local building codes, site conditions, and engineering requirements.

Level 1 — Enhanced Structural Reinforcement

For locations requiring additional structural resistance to high winds or seismic conditions, including states on the west coast and many non-coastal areas with elevated wind requirements.

Includes:

  • A second tension collar added to Deltec’s self-supporting roof system to help resist wind uplift.
  • Additional structural hardware, including metal tie straps and hold-downs, to create a continuous load path to the foundation.
  • Structural engineering seals where required by the local building authority, coordinated through Deltec’s third-party engineers.

Level 2 — Structural Reinforcement + Impact-Resistant Windows

For locations where additional structural reinforcement and impact-resistant windows are needed, including many coastal building sites.

Includes all Level 1 features, plus:

  • An impact-resistant window package.

Level 3 — Specialized Coastal High-Wind Engineering

For locations with particularly demanding coastal and extreme-wind requirements, including certain areas of coastal Florida and the Caribbean.

Includes all Level 1 and Level 2 features, plus:

  • Structural hardware suitable for coastal environments, including stainless or galvanized components as available.
  • ¾-inch roof sheathing and peel-and-stick roof underlayment for a more durable roof deck.
  • A site-specific design review to identify any additional structural changes or floor plan adjustments needed for local extreme-wind conditions.

Level 3 is intended for specialized building requirements and is not necessarily appropriate for other locations.

360° Signature Collection: Hurricane Ready by Design

All seven 360° Signature models, offering 52 floor plans, were designed from the outset to be Hurricane Ready. Their layouts, window configurations, and structural details are developed to accommodate high-wind upgrades, making it simpler and more cost-effective to build a home for demanding wind conditions.

Our standard Signature structural shells are designed for ultimate wind speeds up to 130 mph. For locations requiring additional protection, three established High-Wind Packages allow eligible Signature plans to be engineered for design wind speeds up to 190 mph.

High-Wind Packages are not available for the Backyard Cottage models, Refuge and Sanctuary.

360° Elements Collection: High-Wind Options

Our 360° Elements Collection combines Deltec’s distinctive round living space with rectangular wings, offering flexible floor plans that benefit from our radial design, high-strength materials, and strong structural connections.

High-Wind Packages are available for Elements homes to address the specific requirements of your building location. Our team will work with you to identify the appropriate structural upgrades and engineering for your project.

Attached garage pricing

For Elements homes with attached garages: High-Wind Package pricing includes the round structure and attached wings but does not include additional engineering or upgrades that may be required for an attached garage to meet the same wind requirements.

360° Design Studio: High-Wind Engineering for Custom Homes

Every 360° Design Studio home benefits from Deltec’s radial structural design, high-strength materials, and attention to critical structural connections.

Because each Design Studio home is customized, we review its design and work with you to determine the structural reinforcements, coastal hardware, window specifications, and other engineering requirements appropriate for your building site.

Custom Design Studio homes can be engineered for demanding high-wind conditions, with options for design wind speeds up to 190 mph, depending on the design and site requirements.

Important Considerations

Wind-design requirements are established by local building codes and depend on factors including building location, exposure, terrain, and elevation. Site-specific engineering and permitting requirements may affect the upgrades needed for your home.

Deltec’s team can help you understand the available options and coordinate the appropriate engineering for your project.

While Deltec homes are designed for exceptional wind resistance, no residential home can be guaranteed to be hurricane-proof.
