Helping you build a home that saves energy and the environment

Looking for ways to save energy and tread a little lighter on the earth? Then you'll appreciate our in-house Green Building Team's expertise. We can help you achieve whatever level of sustainability you want in your Deltec home.

We can help you:

  • Identify and prioritize your green building goals
  • Assure your building envelope has maximum energy efficiency
  • Create a durability plan with you and your builder
  • Evaluate opportunities for green building certification programs such as ENERGY STAR, LEED, the NAHB National Green Building Standard
  • Review passive solar design including overhang sizing, window location, and thermal mass
  • Answer questions about renewable energy systems
  • Design and specify green products offered by Deltec such as solar hot water heaters
  • Research sustainable products such as insulation, flooring, and low-flow plumbing fixtures

Here are a few examples of challenges we've resolved for other homeowners:

Meet the team

Leigha Dickens, Green Building Coordinator

Leigha  helps customers evaluate their sustainability options, and provides technical expertise about Deltec's green products. She provides general green consultations, passive solar design consultations, net-zero home design services, and oversees Design to Earn the Energy Star certification on customer floorplans.  She also performs energy audits for Asheville's BuildSmart. She recently earned her BS in physics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she was actively involved with environmental initiatives.

Her environmental experience ranges from modeling the performance of solar arrays at Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute to serving as a natural resource interpreter in Shenandoah National Park. She has also worked in outdoor education as a high- and low- ropes course facilitator.

Leigha is also an avid rock climber, and mentors middle school girls in a local program that uses rock climbing to help teach self confidence. She volunteers with a wilderness trail maintenance crew and also enjoys reading good books. She writes regularly about science and environmental issues.

Steve Linton, President and former Director of Sustainable Technologies

Steve came to Deltec Homes in 2007 to start a new sustainable technologies department. As an expert in green building, he continues to champion green building through his role as company president.

He is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional and formerly a BPI (Building Performance Institute) Certified Professional. Steve has a degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University.

He also teaches classes on green building and building science at national homebuilding conferences.

Prior to Deltec Homes, he worked as a project manager on multiple historic renovation projects in Boston including Trinity Church, focusing on exterior restoration of historic structures. He also spent several years in North Carolina classrooms teaching math and science.

Steve is married and has two sons. He’s active in the community and loves outdoor sports such as rock climbing and mountain biking. Volunteer activities include coaching middle school students with science fair projects and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels.
